For more than 100 years, we've produced top-notch political and cultural commentary, investigative reporting, and grassroots stories. We champion voices of the marginalized and voices of dissent that are under-represented in the mainstream media with a goal of fighting for grassroots progressive politics.

Our most recent issues have featured the voices of: Imani Perry, Ibram X. Kendi, Wajahat Ali, and Bill McKibben. We boast a legacy of writing and reporting from renowned writers including: Noam Chomsky, Barbara Ehrenreich, Howard Zinn, James Baldwin, Martin Luther King Jr., Molly Ivins, Alice Walker, and Eduardo Galeano. Scoops include the H-bomb, the Sackler family, and Wisconsin's GOP meltdown.

Along with our print magazine and its top-notch website, we coordinate two additional programs:

We founded Progressive Perspectives in 1993 as the Progressive Media Project to diversify and democratize our nation's op-ed pages. We train activists and staff from across the country how to write powerful op-eds. In 2018, we hosted 6 writing workshops throughout WI, with 79 attendees from 61 organizations. We solicit op-eds from activists evert week, and distribute them via our wire service to newspapers nationwide. Our goal is to support voices that are underrepresented in the mainstream media.

The Public Schools Advocate was launched in 2013 to show what is at stake with the efforts to dismantle public education. We work with a team of Education Fellows throughout the country, providing them a platform to share the excellent research on public education that is being conducted by university professors, local news organizations, and nonprofit groups.
Our work advocates for the empowerment of the citizenry, peace, social and economic justice, civil liberties, human rights, a preserved environment, and a reinvigorated democracy.
